Shamanic and Spiritual Counseling

Spiritual counseling is an umbrella term that refers to the inclusion of spirituality (including religion) into the counseling process, as opposed to more traditional counseling approaches that keep spirituality separate from the process.  We are happy to integrate most religious and/or spiritual practices into our counseling work to suit your needs.

Shamanic counseling, on the other hand, is a specific type of spiritual counseling, and one that we specialize in.  Although conceptualized and understood in different ways, a fundamental concept in most religious and spiritual traditions around the world is that humans have not only a mind and a body, but also a soul.  Shamanic practice works off of this cross-cultural assumption, and holds that many of our physical and emotional struggles either result from or correspond to injuries to our soul.  Shamanic work, therefore, might be thought of as a process of addressing injuries of the soul.

Shamanic counseling is a practice of combining alternative shamanic work with more traditional counseling methods, allowing for a truly holistic approach that addresses spirituality to the same extent that counseling alone might look at social, emotional, or biologically-based issues.

Shamanic counseling may be of particular interest to you if any of the following are true:

bullet You are specifically searching for a shaman or shamanic practitioner,
bullet You are looking for an alternative form of counseling or healing work,
bullet You are struggling with issues that you believe have a religious and/or spiritual component to them,
bullet Or,  you are seeking help with matters that are not (or have not been successfully) addressed through traditional western medical or mental health methods.
